Get to know Kathleen!

In a house in the woods of Hudson, Ohio, Kathleen draws from her local surroundings to capture nature and society in her designs. Kathleen’s artwork reflects her unconventional approach to all that she does. Movement, bold colors, whimsy and line work bring her art to life. She challenges herself to take traditional geometric designs and break the rules. Tossed patterns attempt to fill the page in a slightly off-center flow. Dots and common shapes are organic rather than precise. Besides being functional, her work invites tiny discoveries for the observer.

Taking the same unconventional approach to teaching, Kathleen developed an online class for designers who primarily use an iPad for their digital work. Pattern Design on the iPad was born out of Kathleen’s desire to learn Illustrator on the iPad app, when no one else was teaching it. She first started going live in a private Facebook group and soon developed a full 10 week online course. She refers to course participants as Trailblazers, because, she says, “we are making our own way and changing the way surface pattern design is done.”
